This strong oxidizing agent is highly soluble in water and takes up heat as it gives an endothermic reaction with it. These are used with tetramethylethylenediamine which is known to catalyze the polymerization reaction of acrylamide in formation of polyacrylamide gel. As an alternative to ferric chloride solution this is used to etch copper on printed circuit boards and is a radical initiator as well.
